Assignment #1 - Due Wed 3 April 2019, at least 15 mins before class

Upload your work to Canvas before the due date. For Parts 2 and 3, remember all instructions from the course-information sheet (e.g., not to use ragged-right margins or sans-serif fonts).

Part 1

Please provide the following information: (a) your full name; (b) the name you would like me and other students to call you in class; (c) your major(s); (d) some fact(s) about you that might help me remember you by. Also feel free to add anything further I should know, such as: your preferred personal pronoun; if you would prefer that I do not include your photo, first name, and last initial, on a class-accessible website; and any particular requests or concerns you might have for this class.

Part 2

This part is only to be done by students on the waitlist; students already enrolled, please go on to Part 3.

Please explain your interest in taking this class, and what you would bring to it if lightning should strike and you should actually get in. Use whatever space you need.

Part 3

Some might claim that The Machine Stops and Dekalog I have a common theme. In an essay of 300–600 words, identify such a candidate theme, and write about the extent to which you think the two works do or do not share the identified theme.

I do not believe that you should need to consult other sources or analyses of The Machine Stops or Dekalog. But if you feel that you need to, go ahead and look. If you do that, you need to properly credit any source you consulted.
