We spent the day discussing Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 of [Ermann, Shauf].

- Class #3 - Wed Jan 14 -
We spent the first part of class discussing
the "scenarios" that students gathered
or made up. We spent the second part of class discussing the
reading about the Therac-25.

- Class #4 - Wed Jan 21 -
We began with a short quiz (Quiz 1). Then we discussed Ermann and Shauf Chapters 10, 11, 13.
(We didn't get to discuss the remaining readings for today, Chapters 12, 14, 15, 17.)
- Class #5 - Fri Jan 23 -
I started with some comments on writing and typesetting. Then we discussed
chapters 12, 17, and 18 from Ermann and Shauf.
- Class #6 - Mon Jan 26 -
I talked briefly about the projects. Then we discussed
chapters 16 and 19 from Ermann and Shauf.
We ended with Quiz 2, covering the final readings from Ermann and Shauf.

We discussed chapters 22, 23, and 24. We discussed some of our personal
ethical choices with respect to things like brands we purchase or stores we shop at.
- Class #8 - Mon Feb 2 - Isaac Trotts spoke to us about
his experience as Livermore, and afterwards.
We discussed Chapter 3 of Barbour, Environmental Values.

We discussed Chapters 4 and 5 of Barbour. I thought it was a good discussion.
- Class #11 - Wed Feb 11 -
We discussed ethical relativism, and people's ethical self-reflection essays.
We discussed the first half of Chapter 7 of Barbour.
- Class #12 - Wed 18 Feb 18 - Had our first presentation,
- The Age of Spiritual Machines (Elbert Tsay). Began wrap-up discussion on
Barbour (didn't get far).
- Class #13 - Mon 23 Feb 23 -
We had two presentations. Chris Willetts spoke on
Database Nation: The Death of Privacy in the 21st Century.
Then Chris Coyne spoke about a novel, Player Piano.
- Class #14 - Wed Feb 25 -
We started with a quiz on the Schmidt reading,
but it became apparent that most people were behind in the
reading, so I postponed that.
We heard a presentation by Adam on Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human
Societies. Class ended a little early.
- Class #15 - Mon Mar 1 -
We took a quiz. We discussed some of Schmidt.
Then Kris Kovalski talked about The Media Monopoly.
